Grant B. Smith – Owner
Grant B. Smith is a lifelong resident of Port Huron and earned his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University. In 1978 Grant began building a very successful health insurance business through very hard work and consistent targeted advertising. Decades of media experience have allowed Grant to assemble a talented and creative marketing staff. The staff has been so successful that GBS Media was created as a secondary business to help accomplish marketing goals for other business owners and professionals.
Edward Senyk – Director of Video Production
Edward Senyk is a life long resident of Port Huron. He was bit by the film bug at a very young age and decided to turn his passion into his career. Edward graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Broadcast and Cinematic Arts from Central Michigan University. He now has over 35 years in award winning video production experience. Edward is the Director of Video Production at GBS Media.
Karl J. Staffhorst – Video Production Specialist
Karl J. Staffhorst was born in Marine City, Michigan. A graduate of Marine City High School, he then went on to get an Associates Degree in General Education from SC4, before transferring to Ball State to get his Bachelors Degree in Telecommunication Production. Karl has always had a strong passion for TV, film, and music and has been working in TV stations since he was just 16 years old. He has been very fortunate to work with a super fun and creative group of video people over the years, and lucky enough to be involved in many award winning projects. Karl is the Video Production Specialist for GBS Media.
John W. Houser – Business Development Director
A native Buckeye from Wooster, John Houser is a graduate of the College of Wooster where he played 4 years of baseball and worked his way through school writing sports for the Wooster Daily Record. He began a career in management with Allstate Insurance that spanned 30 years and involved 6 moves. He landed in Port Huron where he retired. John later was an Executive with the Blue Water Council of the Boy Scouts where he spent 4 years before retiring again. He heard Grant Smith’s call in 2016 and began work with the Grant Smith Insurance Agency and GBS Media. He has been an active member of the Rotary Club of Port Huron for 18 years where he is a Paul Harris recipient and a member of the board. John is also active with the Blue Water Chamber of Commerce where he also serves on the board. He is married to Joy, a Grant Smith Insurance Agency employee. They enjoy travel, friends and their home. Between them they have 4 adult children, 3 grandchildren and two rescue Yorkie pups. Life is good. Working for GBS Media, John is the Business Development Director.
Karrie Beck – Content Specialist
Karrie has lived the largest part of her life in the Blue Water Area. She earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Central Michigan University. As an educator for Port Huron Schools, and a member of High Noon Toastmasters International, Karrie enjoys researching and sharing the local stories and events around the area. She is employed by GBS Media and is a writer for the online magazine Blue Water Healthy Living.
Melissa Wrubel – Content Specialist
Melissa M. Wrubel is a life-long resident of the Blue Water Area. Melissa has a Bachelors Degree from the University of Michigan, and a Masters Degree from Saginaw Valley State University. Her father is local, long-time realtor Thomas L. Coleman, and mother is retired PHASD teacher Marsha V. Coleman. Melissa is a former elementary and middle school educator and administrator. She is happy to live with her family locally in the Blue Water Area, and wants to do as much as she can to support the people in our community. Melissa is employed by GBS Media and is a writer for the online magazine Blue Water Healthy Living.
Marion Webber – Content Specialist
Marion Webber, former owner and operator of Haskill’s Greenhouses began the family owned business in 1986 in St. Clair, MI. Along with the retail site, she worked very closely with the community, supplying plants for fundraisers, churches, hospitals and schools. Bus tours were common in the spring, with hands on learning for children, garden clubs and seniors alike. Community service was the goal of Haskill’s. As the children went off on their own, the business was sold in 2006. Marion, now an employee of GBS Media, continues sharing her love for plants and community service as a writer for Blue Water Healthy Living.
